Primacy Meats

On Tuesday morning Pearl picked me up in her car and took me to the other side of Bangor to a place called Primacy Meats and Food Village. It used to just be a butcher's but they've added a tea room/coffee shop, gifts, and a little grocery store with nice things and local veg. As we drove down the little lane towards the place Pearl pointed out to me that it used to be a country road; on the left were the very old single-story cottages, still in use and in lovely condition, but now overshadowed by the expansion of Bangor.

Across from the cottages were the usual semi-detached two story brick homes. Pearl herself lives in a neighborhood dating probably from the fifties, just to the east of Castle Park, in land that at one time was the farmland attached to Bangor Castle. We had a cup of tea and a scone and then I shopped, finding that they had some lamb shanks and lamb pieces, which I've been wanting to get but keep forgetting to special order at Burns Butchers. When Pearl brought me home I had her come inside to meet Walt and Reed briefly; Walt was just slipping an apple pie in the oven and cleaning up his piecrust mess off the counter, which impressed Pearl quite a bit. I made some Irish stew out of the lamb pieces yesterday, letting the mixture of onions, carrots, potatoes, and lamb simmer all afternoon until the whole thing was a sweet, melting mess of deliciousness. No complaints from Reed about 'soup again'!
